Dear D7 Families,
I want to take this opportunity to share some exciting news. At its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 8, the D7 Board of Education voted to authorize the development of a K-12 Virtual Learning Academy. With this forward-thinking action the board provided another tool for D7 to be competitive in today's education arena. We know that many families are looking for a robust education for their students and, at the same time, preferring a virtual format. Therefore, the creation of the academy will allow our district to attract and retain students, because we know that growing enrollment is a critical component of our long-term vision.
In order to fully develop this vision, current Annapolis High School Principal Cheryl Howard will take on a new challenge as the Director of the K-12 Virtual Learning Academy. Having served in D7 since 2000, Ms. Howard is uniquely equipped to take this idea from concept to reality. The virtual academy will launch with the start of the 2023-2024 school year. I appreciate her willingness to take on this new assignment. Please join me in thanking Ms. Howard for taking on the challenge of developing this new program within our district.
I am also pleased to announce that Aaron Mollett has agreed to take on the role of Principal of Annapolis High School beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Mollett has served in our district as a teacher, Dean of Students, and since 2017 as the Principal of O.W. Best Middle School. Mr. Mollett brings with him a commitment to service by developing positive relationships with students, staff, and the community. Mr. Mollett will bring those skills and talents with him to further the work at Annapolis High School. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Mollett to Cougar Country.
The search for the principal of O.W. Best Middle School will begin immediately.
